Sabine Brünger-Weilandt has been awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon

Karlsruhe, March 12, 2025 — Sabine Brünger-Weilandt was President & CEO of FIZ Karlsruhe - Leibniz Institute for Information Infrastructure from 2003 to 2023. Under her leadership, FIZ Karlsruhe developed into a central player in the digital science infrastructure, and she was instrumental in coining the term “information infrastructure”. Her influence extended far beyond FIZ Karlsruhe:She was involved in numerous committees, for example as a member of the Executive Board of the Leibniz Association and as co-founding chair of the Council for Information Infrastructures (RfII). Sabine Brünger-Weilandt played a key role in establishing and shaping the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI). She was involved in developing central research data infrastructure concepts and contributed significantly to the political anchoring of these topics.

The award of the Federal Cross of Merit by the Federal Minister of Education and Research, Cem Özdemir, recognizes her lasting contribution to the digital transformation of science. The ceremony took place on March 11 in Berlin.
