DROPS - Data trust module for preventive protection against identity data misuse

The "DROPS" project is dedicated to the development of a data trust module that can be used as a technical building block by trust agencies in various contexts. The project focuses on leaked data records. The aim is to develop a modular software framework that enables - among other things - a legally compliant comparison between (anonymized) identity data records and leaked (sensitive) data records. In this way, early warning messages can be generated for various players, in particular to effectively limit the misuse of identity data by third parties. As the data records concerned regularly contain personal data, the processing of leaked data records is associated with legal and technical challenges, which are to be addressed and resolved in the project.
At the same time, innovative solutions are to be developed to ensure anonymous data entry of leaked data records on the one hand and to protect IT security researchers and corporate whistleblowers from criminal prosecution on the other. As a result, the so-called "DT module" should enable data trustee offices to act as uniform reporting and verification channels for private individuals, companies and public authorities in the event of leaked identity data. The project is based at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
