National research data infrastructure for the material legacies of human history (NFDI4Objects)

NFDI4Objects is the research data infrastructure for the material legacies of human history. They are the only source of knowledge for the vast majority of humanity's cultural and biological development. Their diversity, manifold contexts and complex (object) biographies are a major challenge for digital research processes. To this end, the consortium will, among other things, provide reliable and interoperable data services, promote awareness of the relevance of data quality, and improve the quality of research data.

The consortium

The consortium consists of 11 co-applicant institutions and 61 members that have a common interest in the material legacies of mankind and the resulting challenges in research data management. The main applicant is the German Archaeological Institute. In addition, there are 12 co-applicants as well as a large number of partner institutions (participants) - among them FIZ Karlsruhe.

FIZ Karlsruhe is involved in the Task Areas TA 5 "Storage, Access and Dissemination" and TA 7 "Support and Coordination". TA 5 deals with the provision of technologies and standards for long-term archiving and subsequent use of research data, taking into account the FAIR principles. Specifically, FIZ Karlsruhe contributes the research data repository and archive RADAR and its expertise in the design and implementation of the discovery system. In Task Area TA 7, we contribute to the coordination of processes between the TAs as well as to the scientific further development of the consortium within the NFDI as a whole, in particular by providing legal advice.
